Changing your contact details (email and phone number)
Because Compassly is designed as a passport, to allow you to bring your competencies with you as you move organisations, it is natural that your contact details may change over time. Compassly allows you to change your contact details whenever you need. You can also setup multiple different contact details to use simultaneously with different organisations.
This feature can also be used if you have registered with an incorrect email address or to correct a mistake in your email address.
Start on your main profile page
All changes to your profile contact details need to be made on your main profile page, rather than within an organisation.
Starting on your profile page, tap on “Contact Details”
Here you’ll see the details you currently have setup in the system (generally those that you registered with):
You can then go ahead and add a new email, by tapping on “+ Add New Email”.
Enter and confirm your new email address
It’s a good idea to verify this email address by clicking on the link emailed to it - some organisations will not let you join with unverified emails.
You’ll then see the new email alongside your existing, primary email address:
Making an email primary
To start with, the new email will be “Secondary” email address. Compassly has two types of email addresses that serve two different purposes.
- Primary email. This is the email address that you login to the system with, and by default it’s the email you registered with. If you forget your password, it is this email address that we’ll send the password reset to. It is also the default email that will be selected when you join a new organisation.
- Secondary email. You don’t use this email to login, and you won’t be able to reset your password with it. This is only used as a credential to join organisations. This is particularly important if the organisation you are joining requires a specific email domain before you can join, if this is not your primary email.
You can turn one of your secondary emails into your primary email by going into the secondary email detail, and selecting “Make primary”
Deleting an unused email
If you no longer want to use one of your email addresses, you can delete it from Compassly. This can only be done with Secondary emails, you must maintain a Primary email to login with.
Simply go into your secondary email (as shown above) and select “Delete”
If you make a mistake, you can always re-add this email again.
This can only be done if that email is not being used in an organisation. If you want to remove an email being used at an organisation, you’ll need to leave and rejoin (see below).
Changing the details when you’ve already joined an organisation
Because your contact details are verified when you join an organisation (including potential checks that they meet organisation requirements), they cannot be changed within an existing organisation.
However, you can effectively change your details with an existing organisation by leaving and re-joining with your new details. This will not reset any progress on your competencies - however, if a competency requires “Localisation”
A supervisor will need to remove you from your organisation
