References in Compassly
Competency references are external or internal documents, links, or notes that provide additional context, guidance, or validation for a specific competency. These references could include industry standards, guides and guidelines, training materials and videos, or assessments.
Using competency references
Competency references give you extra material to engage with and learn from as you work towards achieving your required competencies. The types of references included under each competency will vary and depend on the complexity of the competency (amongst other factors), but may include:
- web-based guides and support
- national guidelines (e.g., published by the Royal Colleges)
- local policy files
- quick reference guides
- standard controls and precautions
- video guides and training videos
- posters
- NICE clinical summaries
- self-assessment checklists
- eLearning materials
- templates and charts
Note that not all competencies will have reference material.
To find the references for a specific competency, first navigate to that Competency Overview. On the Overview page, tap on
View reference files.
This will open a separate page, where you can view all the available references for that particular competency, as well as what competency library the references are related to.
Tapping on the different reference materials will take you to the relevant PDF, website, page, etc. For example, for the “Hand Hygiene” competency, you are able to access the following reference materials:
- PDF policies
- embedded videos
- WHO posters
- YouTube video guides
Related Competencies
Some other competencies might not have any references, and instead have “Related Competencies”. This will only apply to a limited number of competency libraries, such as the UKONS SACT passport.
You will typically only find these within competencies that are ‘Pre-requisites’ to other competencies; for example, the “Core SACT passport” is a pre-requisite to other competencies, and so they will act as “Related Competencies” to the “Core SACT passport”.
See Prerequisites (UKONS) for further details on this feature
